FIFA World Cup 2014: Beer Must Be Sold at Brazil Venues

Beer must be sold at all the twelve sports venues hosting games in the World Cup 2014 in Brazil, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke said on Wednesday (January 18) as he endeavored to close all further talks on a controversial issue in Brazil.

Alcoholic drinks such as beer have been banned in Brazil’s stadiums since 2003 as part of the followers’ acts, intended at preventing aggression among hardcore supporters at football games and the country’s health minister has supported Congress to maintain the ban in the new law.

However, Fifa General Secretary admitted that, Alcoholic drinks are part of FIFA World Cup, so we are going to have them at Brazil 2014. The fact that we have the right to sell beer at Brazil has to be a part of the law. As Brewer Budweiser is a big FIFA sponsor.

He said the foreign press corps in a discussion in Rio de Janeiro, where on Thursday he will hold a reunion with the World Cup local organizing committee (LOC).

Football’s world governing body, Fifa has become frustrated because voting on the legislation has been held up in Congress by the disagreement over alcohol drinks sales.

The Brazilian government has also unsuccessful to resolve differences with Fifa over cut-price tickets for students and older citizens, and demands for sponsors of the World Cup 2014 to have their trade names protected.

Mr Jerome Valcke insisted about the negotiations with Brazil sports accusation over details of the World Cup had been very slow. But, during his visit to Brazil Mr Valcke has been touring the sports stadiums in 12 cities where the 2014 World Cup will be played.
