Europa League 2012: FC Twente Vs Fulham Group K Preview

FC Twente will play host to Fulham this evening in UEFA Europa League – Group K fixture kick-off 18:00 GMT on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at De Grolsch Veste.

Twente are possibly best known in England for one of their former managers. After being thankful of his duties with the England national side following the country’s failure to qualify for Euro 2008, Steve McClaren enjoyed a successful two-season spell in Enschede.

After a second-spot finish in the 2008/09 season, McClaren led the club to their first ever Eredivisie league title the following year.

FC Twente will be without midfielder Willem Janssen (illness injury), but skipper Peter Wisgerhof has recovered from a bug and should start. But coach Co Adriaanse has doubts over top goalscorer Marc Janko.

Fulham may go top of Group K stage with a victory in the Netherlands. They at present sit three points behind Thursday’s hosts FC Twente, who also hold a three-goal lead in the goal difference line.

Fulham manager Martin Jol is a former Twente player himself. A midfielder, Jol played for the national side for the first time – after joining the club in the year 1979. He spent three years with Twente after signing from Bayern Munich.

Fulham will travel to Holland without Clint Dempsey (thigh injury), while Chris Baird away from the game due to personal reasons. Manager Martin Jol remains without Steve Sidwell (hernia injury) and Simon Davies (knee injury), but Damien Duff, Orlando Sa and Stephen Kelly have all travelled and could feature.
