Chelsea FC is reportedly prepared to launch a £20 million bid for Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote, who is also a target for Manchester United club.
The Ivory Coast international was connected with a move to Chelsea last summer, but in current weeks it has been interest that United were the more expected of the two clubs to open a bid for the tough tackler, when the transfer window re-opens in January 2012.
The Premier League champions were planning a bid for the 25-year-old, who has rise above since joining the Magpies from FC Twente last season. But, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has made Tiote his peak selector for the New Year target.
AVB’s interest could flash a bidding war between the two clubs, and Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has advised potential suitors that, they will have to break the bank to ground the player – who cost the Tyneside club just £3.5 million.
Pardew has not ruled out a move in January, but he insisted that, it is going to cost a hell of a lot of money, a hell of a lot of funds because we are in that position now. He thinks any of their players that get connected to other clubs – those clubs are going to oblige knowing they will need to pay a hut load of money to get anyone out of this football club.
He also told that, he doesn’t predict anyone going out in this window. But, if a club, one of the top clubs comes in and wants to pay way, over the odds we’ll have to look at it.
The Ivory Coast international admits that, the side is looking forward to a trip to play over the league leaders on Saturday.
