Manchester City are allegedly planning to make a £30 million bid for Arsenal FC skipper Robin van Persie, if deal talks go nowhere before January.
Van Persie is one of several Arsenal stars, who will have one year left on their contracts at the end of the season and the North London club can be forced to sell if a new contract is not agreed. News over the summer had suggested the Netherlands international was upset at considering the likes of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas leave the club.
However, it had been speculated that he was ready to give-up the Emirates unless manager Arsene Wenger brought in replacements. Van Persie had been linked with the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid towards the end of last year.
According to the sources, on Sunday, City have snapped up deal rebel Nasri last month in a £24 million contract, and are ready to leap for the Dutchman if he fails to agree a new deal before the transfer window opens in the New Year.
Speaking on Saturday after the English Premier League victory at home to Bolton, Arsene Wenger told of the striker that, he has grown well into the skipper’s character. He is a man, who speaks his mind and is doing the job well.
Andrei Arshavin, Theo Walcott and Thomas Vermaelen are in related deal situations to Van Persie, and the Gunners are thought to be preparing to open talks with both Vermaelen and Walcott very soon.
But, before the Bolton game, Wenger had declared that there was a probability that he might lose some of his top players next summer.
