Manchester United striker Michael Owen is ready to quit the Red Devils club, if he does not get more game time, and has hit back at allegations that he is happy to sit in the stands.
On Tuesday night, Owen made his debuts of the season by scoring two goals and Ryan Giggs with one goal in the Carling Cup victory with 3-0 against Leeds United at Elland Road, England.
After being charged of signing a new one-year deal extension at the club only to watch from the sidelines and pick up his monthly pay-cheque, the former England striker admits: He is not content if he is not playing and he don’t want anybody to think that. He gets criticized a lot by people, who say he doesn’t play, but he picks his money up. He is not proud of that fact, and he want to play all the time.
Owen added: There is nothing from him in terms of any anger. He is very pleased and proud with the way he played against Leeds. He is obviously known his position in the Red Devils squad. We have got some top strikers and it is no shame on him that we have got the likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Chicharito and Dimitar Berbatov.
According to the sources, that is not a negative on me in any way. He appreciate there are some top key players in the side and the squad, so it is a challenge to get on the bench, let alone the team. He added.
The former Liverpool and Newcastle striker also admitted that he is prepared to leave Old Trafford soil unless he gets more first team opportunities.
