Manchester United has missing Rio Ferdinand out of their squad for Wednesday night’s Uefa Champions League game away to Benfica.Benfica play host to Manchester United tonight in UEFA Champions’ League Group C, kick-off Wednesday on September 14th 2011, 18:45 GMT at Estadio da Luz.Benfica have made a winning start to their season, appealing their last three league games after drawing their first, and defeating FC Twente and Trabzonspor on their way to the group stage. Spanish World-Cup-winning left-back Joan Capdevila is not integrated in his new club’s 25-man squad list for the rivalry after failing to remove current Emerson.
Manchester United – Rio Ferdinand, the centre-half had returned from a hamstring injury for last weekend’s 5-0 win against Bolton in the English Premier League but has been rested by manager Sir Alex Ferguson for the trip to Portugal. Ferguson is thought to be looking ahead to this weekend’s Premier League fixture with Chelsea.United trip to Portugal on Tuesday with Rafael da Silva, Nemanja Vidic, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley all ruled out through injury problem. But, the defenders Patrice Evra (knee injury) and Jonny Evans (hip injury) are both doubts.
However, Man Utd’s striker Wayne Rooney has smack an even more striking flash of goal-scoring form, hitting eight in five so far.
Benfica Squad: Artur, Pereira, Luisao, Garay, Emerson, Garcia, Witsel, Gaitan, Nolito, Saviola and Cardozo.
Manchester United Squad: De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Ferdinand, Fabio, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Young, Rooney and Chicharito.
