Fernando Torres could be ruled-out of the starting squad for Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League game with Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night and also on Sunday’s clash against Manchester United.Fernando Torres was left out by Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas for Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Sunderland, just a day after being dropped by Spain for their 6-0 victory against Liechtenstein and ‘AVB’ might this week keep faith with Daniel Sturridge, who returned from suspension to spot his debut start of the season with a goal in the win at the Stadium of Light.
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas said: Club had a lot of sides calling Daniel to take him on loan during the transfer window but it was not at all going to happen. The technical staff and Villas-Boas had the feeling, that club should bring him in, and we have an outstanding player.
Villas-Boas insists £50 million forward Fernando can get back into his starting squad, but has concerned that he is ready to leave him on the bench again this weekend. It is a very important week in front for the club and we really need to focus now on the next game, the Portuguese said.
Everybody wants to start well in the UEFA Champions League with three points, especially in a home game, and even more so since it comes before Manchester United. It is a crucial week for us but we have a very excellent squad in all sectors and we will have to rest a few of the players in order to be able to react. The UEFA Champions League requires a certain level, but at least we have four days before the Manchester United game.
