Barcelona skipper Carles Puyol will return from knee injury within three weeks, according to the club’s doctor.
Carles Puyol (33-year-old) underwent surgery on a recurring knee injury in June after under attack with the problem for most of 2011 year. He has since been working on his recovery and come back to light training last month.
The club doctor Ramon Cugat, who executed the surgery on the centre-back, believes he will be able to come back to action next month. The central defender will be playing again within three weeks.
Cugat was quoted as, I expect him back in action halfway through September and he will soon be in good form again. The surgery will not have any long-term consequences. Puyol is here to wait; he still has one, two and possibly even three more seasons to go.
Puyol first picked up the injury in a league game over Racing Santander in January and made his return in April over Real Madrid only to undergo a setback. He was then out of action until the Champions League final at Wembley stadium in May, 2011, where he made a small appearance in a 3–1 victory against Manchester United.
Puyol struggled with many injuries but still emerged in 28 official games for Barcelona, which again won the league and the UEFA Champions League. He is often known as the heart of the Barcelona squad.
Carles Puyol played for the Spanish national team at the Olympics 2000, FIFA World Cup 2002, 2004 UEFA Euro, World Cup 2006, 2008 Euro Cup, 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the World Cup 2010.
