Liverpool is apparently interested in signing the Porto left-back Alvaro Pereira.
The Merseyside’s are keen on increasing the left-back position in time for the start of the new campaign following Paul Konchesky’s disappointed to impress last season.
England international Glen Johnson fitted in at left-back for much of the second half of last season, but Reds Coach Kenny Dalglish is keen on adding a new player to take part in that position before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
After missing out on Gael Clichy, Reds boss remains interested in Jose Enrique, but the Scot is so far to lodge a bid for the Newcastle defender.
According to the reports – In Portugal, the club are now looking at Porto’s Uruguay international Alvaro Pereira.
Alvaro Pereira, who have been selected in the 2011 Copa América in Argentina, has being first-choice and scoring two goals in the group stage, It includes the game’s only against Mexico, as Uruguay won its 15th continental tournament.
The 25-year-old, who can also play on the left side, he can play as either a defender or midfielder, is believed to have a £17.5 million takeover clause in his deal, which could prove to be an uncertain block.
Liverpool have already spent around £50 million on new players this summer, and with the likes of Christian Poulsen, Alberto Aquilani, Milan Jovanovic and David N’Gog yet to be off-loaded, Alvaro may be seen as too costly as the club look to keep the books balanced.
