FC Barcelona’s Carles Puyol is on course to be fully fit in time for the beginning of the 2011-12 New La Liga season, the Spanish champions have revealed.
Barcelona centre-back has struggled with a knee injury for most of 2011 but, according to the Catalan club is on his way back to complete fitness after undergoing surgery at the start of the month.
In a statement posted on their official website, the Catalan club stated: Carles Puyol is coming to the end of the first three-week stage of his recovery, the aim of which is to work on the musculature of his left leg.
If all goes as well and planned, he should be able to start gentle training out on the pitch by the end of this June.
The Spain international first picked up the injury problem in a La Liga fixture over Racing Santander on January 22, 2011.
Puyol returned in April over Real Madrid only to suffer a setback, which ruled him out until last month’s UEFA Champions League final at Wembley, where the skipper suffered a setback and failed to feature again until he came on to play for the final three minutes of his side’s 3-1 Champions League win against Manchester United at the end of May at Wembley stadium.
Barcelona added that, they aimed to have their high-ranking skipper ready for the start of the new season.
