FIFA will open a full inquiry into claims of Mohamed Bin Hammam and Jack Warner offered financial incentives to associates of the Caribbean Football Union.
Jack Warner, the controversial FIFA vice-president and Mohamed Bin Hammam, the Qatari president of the Asian Football Confederation, was last week wrapped up in a promising campaign for election to the FIFA presidency.
The FIFA beliefs group confirmed on Sunday the provisional suspension of the pair, who refuses the allegations from all football activity, but cleared FIFA president Sepp Blatter of turning a blind eye to the alleged corrupts.
The committee, chaired by Nambibian Petrus Damaseb, attended to Qatari Bin Hammam (62-year-old), Warner and Blatter during an impressive day which had started with Bin Hammam moving back from the presidential election in which he was Blatter’s sole challenger.
The organization’s presidential election will now go ahead as planned on coming Wednesday, with Sepp Blatter set to be re-elected unopposed to a fourth term.
The ethics committee said there was adequate proof to further investigate allegations that Bin Hammam and Warner offered $40,000 (£24,233) corrupts to delegates at a Caribbean football union association meeting on May 10-11 in Trinidad.
The payments were allegedly made to secure votes for Bin Hammam in his campaign to unseat Sepp Blatter as the head of football’s governing body. The proof was submitted to FIFA by American executive group member Chuck Blazer.
