Robin van Persie Arsenal and Dirk Kuyt Liverpool scored injury-time penalties, as Gunners drew 1-1 at home ground to Reds on Sunday in the Premier League game.
The game got off to a bright start and it was Arsenal who had the better chances early in the game. Dirk Kuyt secured a point for the Liverpool with a penalty, after 10 minutes of injury time and just moments after Robin van Persie’s own spot-kick had looked enough for victory.
Liverpool was deal a blow, when Fabio Aurelio shuffled out of the game with less than half an hour gone due to a hamstring injury problem. Before, the Reds nearly found themselves 1-0 down when Robin van Persie volleyed home from Cesc Fabregas ball above the top only to correctly be blown for off-side.
Liverpool were also forced to take off Andy Carroll, who was struggling with a knock taken earlier in the game.
Arsenal were the much better side as the first half ended without any score, but they have continued to impress early in the second half.
As the second half reached the final 15 minutes, Gunners continued to look like the side more likely to break the deadlock. But, they were too often and were trying to over play things rather than look for a simple pass.
However, neither teams seemed content with settling for a point nor both sides pushed for a late winner.
Arsenal finally broke the dead-lock, when caption Cesc Fabregas raced into the penalty area and was brought down by Jay Spearing, with the referee awarding a penalty shot. Robin van Persie slotted the spot-kick to apparently keep his team in the title race.
Liverpool was awarded their own penalty, when after a Luis Suarez free-kick was bobbling around the Gunners penalty area. Emmanuel Eboue brought down Lucas and key player Dirk Kuyt scored from the penalty spot with the final kick of the game.
The 1-1 full-time score leaves Liverpool in sixth place, four points behind Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenals in the second place and remain six points behind league leaders Manchester United.
