Ghana will meet England for the International Friendly at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 20:00 BST.
Fabio Capello made a decision to release six players from the England squad to face Ghana. After the team’s victory with 2-0 against the Wales, five players were sent back to their clubs including John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Wayne Rooney and Michael Dawson. They were sent off so that they will have time to recover before the domestic season against the World Cup quarter-finalists.
The former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah claims that England were under-rating Ghana and feels that the Ghanaians will be disappointed not to see full strength England side. He added that lot of them have travelled from America, Canada from around the world and it is a big game and the Ghanaians are going to follow the match.
Some of the interesting facts are the England has never been beaten by African opposition by the teams of the continent in sixteen occasions. England have won just two of their last five home games and just scored 1.4 goals a game which is the world’s 32nd best record.
Currently, England and Ghana are the top qualifying groups of their international tournaments. England won against Wales while Ghana is leading Sudan by three points.
The Probable List:
England: Hart, Johnson, Lescott, Jagielka, Baines, Parker, Wilshere, Barry, Milner, Bent, Young.
Ghana: Kingson, Pantsil, John Mensah, Jonathan Mensah, Sarpei, Annan, Muntari, Tagoe, Ayew, Gyan, Kwadko Asamoah.
