Liverpool FC club has been declared the appointment of Ian Ayre as new Managing Director and promoted Damien Comolli as Director of football.
Reds chiefs stated the appointments in a statement issued last evening.
Ian Ayre (47-year-old) has worked as the club’s Commercial Director since August 2007 under the earlier command of Tom Hicks and George Gillett. He will now take up the role leaved by Christian Purslow, who left the position in October 2010. The owners had been searching for his successor ever since December last year.
Ayre worked alongside Purslow and Martin Broughton during Fenway Sports Group’s takeover of the club. Liverpool have extensively improved the number of partners they have deals with and reporting at the time to then Chief Executive Rick Parry.
Comolli was appointed as Director of Football policy back in November 2010, in one of Henry’s first chief acts following his purchase of the club from former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Comolli left Saint Etienne to connect Liverpool FC in November 2010, as director of football strategy. He has been tasked with identifying potential signings and formerly worked at Tottenham and Arsenal.
The club has made major improvements commercially during his time at the club, including the significantly improved shirt sponsorship deal Ayre negotiated with Standard Chartered.
Reds chief’s owner John W Henry stated that Ian Ayre has more than fifteen years experience in the media businesses and sports. They are delighted now to announce this significant appointment. They conducted a wide recruitment seek out and met with outstanding candidates, who required this role but in the end, after having worked with Ian Ayre and other top senior executive within the club. They have realized that Ian had all of the aspects necessary to lead the Club forward.
