Villarreal were able to continue the impressive home performance against Napoli, Italian club with a 2-1 triumph and have booked their position in the Europa League last 16 following a thrilling second leg at El Madrigal.
Villarreal had started the game bestride with nerves but pressure behind sparked them into life. Villarreal have won all of their matches on the home ground in this campaign but go into Thursday’s clash having suffered little bit in form.
Villarreal boss Juan Carlos Garrido admires his team players striking performance, as they hit back from an early deficit to overcome Napoli. Juan Carlos side has calmed just one point in their last 3 league matches.
The Villarreal side had not stepped up in time letting Marek Hamsik to direct a diving heading away from Diego Lopez. Nilmar drew the teams score in the 42nd minute with a fabulous shot, later Italy international Giuseppe Rossi put his sidetrack shot in the 45th minute before first-half stoppage-time.
Napoli did not have luck this time, as they were undone with their efforts. Napoli took the lead in the first half of 18th minute, when Ezequiel Lavezzi sent in a fantastic cross which one of four Napoleon key players might have converted.
Napoli go into the game on the back of last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Catania, their sixth win in seven league games so far, putting them to second in the Serie A standings, just three points behind league leaders AC Milan.
However, they have so far to triumph away from home in European competition this season.
Final Score: Villarreal, 2 and Napoli, 1
Highlights:
Villarreal – Nilmar (42′) and Giuseppe Rossi (45′)
Napoli – Marek Hamsik (18′)
