The royal family of Qatar is preparing to buy Manchester United club, owners the Glazer with a fresh £1.5 billion bid. Glazer family is verge of selling the club to Qatar Holdings.
The oil-rich emirate’s ruling Al Thani family had a £1 billion offer rejected earlier this month. But, they confirmed that it tried to convince the Glazers earlier this month with an offer of just over £1 billion, as the Qataris are on the limit of making an improved bid.
The United’s American holders are only haggling over details as they close in on a deal appeal more than double the £790 million they paid for the club in 2005 year.
The newspaper goes on to claim that the new offer is somewhat provoked by rivalry with the Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has invested millions of pounds to transform United’s arch-rivals Manchester City.
While Qatar’s royal family first choice is a single-handed bid, they are also in view of going into partnership with the Red Knights, a group of rich Manchester United fans. They want to grapple control of the club from the Glazers family and have the support of the fans. A partnership would merge the billions of oil-rich Qatar with the wave of popular support that the Red Knights could pull towards fans.
Manchester United’s director of communications Phil Townsend sustain on Thursday that no offer has been made yet. “There has been no loom to buy Man’s united and no advance would be welcome”.
