Samuel Eto’o Crowned CAF African King Award: Samuel Eto’o wins the CAF African Footballer of the Year Award for fourth time. Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o has become the first man, as the Inter striker was named African Football Player of the Year for a fourth time, as he won the biggest accolade available at CAF Awards held at the Intercontinental City Stars Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.
In CAF awards, there were three players were in the running to take the African CAF king award in African football, but Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan did not get the polling for this CAF award. They needed to take the award from Samuel Eto’o, 29-year-old native of central town Nkon, as he scored two best goals for his country.
Samuel Eto’o finished ahead of first-time finalist Asamoah Gyan of Ghana and former winner Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast and it was at club level where Samuel Eto’o truly turned on the style.
Samuel also won many more prestigious and honorable awards in 2003, 2004 and 2005 while playing in Barcelona and Spain.
Samuel Eto’o said “It is a pleasure to be a winner again, to take it for the fourth time against such top opposition,” and also told that “Africa now has so many best football players and there is lots of talent coming up in coming years, so this might be a last chance for me.” after the ceremony in Cairo.
